Exploring your audience with Audience Explorer

Exploring your audience with Audience Explorer

Audience Explorer lets you build targeting criteria and instantly see estimated audience sizes, demographic breakdowns, and segment compositions before you launch a campaign.

Audience Explorer is a research tool that proxies the LinkedIn audience insights API. Use it to validate targeting ideas, compare audience sizes, and understand the demographic makeup of any targeting combination before committing budget to a campaign.

Building a targeting query

Open Audience Explorer from the sidebar and select your connected LinkedIn ad account. Use the Visual Query Builder to add include and exclude criteria across dimensions such as job function, seniority, industry, company size, and location. Each facet supports both include and exclude logic. The estimated audience size updates automatically as you add or remove criteria.

  • Start with broad criteria and narrow down rather than building a highly specific audience from scratch.
  • Geographic targeting is required for most LinkedIn audience size estimates to return a result.
  • Company size and seniority combinations tend to have the most predictable and stable audience size effects.
  • Exclude criteria are useful for removing non-ICP segments such as students or very small companies.
  • You can save any targeting combination as a reusable template and apply it in Media Planning or the Ads Composer.

Reading the breakdown charts

After running a query, Revenue Proven displays the total estimated audience size and a set of breakdown charts. Each chart shows the distribution of your audience across a dimension such as job title, industry, or years of experience. These charts help you spot unintended concentrations — for example, if 60 percent of your audience falls in a single industry you did not intend to prioritise, you can add an exclude rule to redistribute reach.

Next steps

Once you are satisfied with a targeting set, save it as a template and take it into Media Planning to generate a LinkedIn-backed budget forecast. Saved templates can also be loaded directly into the Ads Composer when building new campaigns.
